What is eduroam?

eduroam (Education Roaming) is a secure, world-wide roaming internet access service developed for the international research and education community. The eduroam initiative began in Europe in 2003 and has since expanded to Australia, North America and Asia.

eduroam provides students, researchers and staff from participating institutions with free wireless internet access when visiting other participating institutions by simply turning on their already configured laptop/phone or other smart devices. All sites participating in eduroam use the eduroam network name. Depending on local policies at the visited institution, the visitor may also have additional resources (for example printers) at their disposal.

Your device must be configured with the eduroam network before you visit a participating institution. Before you leave IIT:

  • Check whether the institution you are visiting participates in eduroam (https://www.eduroam.org)
  • Make sure you have configured, and checked your device.
