Important information for staff regarding transition of email to Gmail (Google Apps)

To access your email

  • From your office computer: Log on to your computer with the username open any web browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome) and log on to my.iit.edu using the same username and password, then click on the Google Apps for Chicago-Kent icon to access email.
  • From outside Chicago-Kent: Open any web browser (IE, Safari, Firefox, Chrome) and log onto my.iit.edu, then click on the Google Apps for Chicago-Kent icon to access email.
  • Links to Webmail will be replaced with appropriate information.

A note about email addresses

  • Your official email address is username@kentlaw.iit.edu. You will send email using this address.
  • You will still be able to receive email at username@kentlaw.edu. 

Synchronizing your myIIT and Chicago-Kent passwords

Important! Please follow the below information carefully. You will need to create a new password though myIIT to synchronize your email and computer logins. 

By synchronizing your passwords, you will have one password for all the following:

  • Google Apps (the new email system)
  • myIIT Portal
  • All other computer/network logins at Chicago-Kent including access to your desktop, wireless, VPN, Faculty Grading system, seating charts, etc.

Note:

  • If you have already set your password during one of the training sessions or with a CLC staff member, please skip the steps below for changing and synchronizing your passwords. This should already have been completed.
  • If your chicago-Kent username is different from my.iit.edu portal ID you must complete the steps listed under If your Chicago-Kent username is different from your myIIT portal username before you can access email.

If your Chicago-Kent username is same as your myIIT portal username

  1. Go to my.iit.edu and enter your myIIT Portal ID, which is the same as your Chicago-Kent username.
  2. Click on My Account and change the password. Click Save Changes. 
  3. If you are not already viewing the main Welcome page in myIIT, click on the "Back to the Welcome Tab" link at the top right under the myIIT logo.
  4. Click the Training and Support Tab.
  5. In the Google Apps Account Maintenance box on the right, scroll down and click the red "Sync Your Password" link.
  6. Click on the Google Apps for Chicago-Kent icon at the top of the screen. This will take you to your Google Apps account.
  7. Once you set your new password, you will use it to log in to myIIT and your computer at Chicago-Kent.

If your Chicago-Kent username is different from your myIIT portal username

 
  1. Go to my.iit.edu and enter your CK username, which is now also your new myIIT portal ID
  2. You must log in to myIIT with a temporary password: MMDDXXXX, where MMDD is the month and day of your birthday and XXXX is the last four digits of your "A-number." The A-number can be looked up by logging into my.iit.edu with your old portal ID; on the welcome tab, look for the IIT Personal ID Numbers box. The Banner CWID listed there is your A-number.
  3. After you log in, you'll be asked to create a new password.  Note that the password must be at least 8 characters long and include at least one number and one character.
  4. Create two security questions. They can be anything you'd like.
  5. If you are not already viewing the main Welcome page in myIIT, click on the "Back to the Welcome Tab" link at the top right under the myIIT logo.
  6. Click Training and Support Tab.
  7. In the Google Apps Account Maintenance box on the right, scroll down and click the red "Sync Your Password" link.
  8. Click on the Google Apps for Chicago-Kent icon at the top of the screen. This will take you to your Google Apps account.

After your password is changed: 

  • If you are in the office, you must log off your office computer and log back in with the new password
  • You will need to reconfigure any mobile devices, such as mobile phones, iPads or laptops that are currently set up to use Chicago-Kent email or connect to the DTC wireless network.

Note: Since May 22, 2012, myIIT is the official and only place to change your password.
