A. Dan Tarlock

University Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Professor of Law Emeritus

Professor Tarlock is University Distinguished Professor Emeritus. He joined the Chicago-Kent faculty in 1981 and is an internationally recognized expert in environmental law and the law of land and water use. He has published over 160 articles, a treatise, Law of Water Rights and Resources, and co-authored multiple editions of five casebooks, Water Resource Management, Environmental Law, Land Use ControlsEnvironmental Protection: Law and Policy, and International Environmental Law and Policy. He taught courses in land use, property, energy and natural resources, water, and international environmental law. He helped found the law's school environmental law program and directed it for many years.

Professor Tarlock was a frequent consultant to local, state, federal and international agencies, NGOs and law firms and is an elected member of the American Law Institute. He chaired and served on various National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council committees and was the principal report writer for the Western Water Policy Review Advisory Committee. He also served as a United States special legal adviser to the NAFTA Commission on Environmental Cooperation and on the Technical Committee of the Stockholm- based Global Water Partnership.
