Herbert Munsterman

Lecturer and Director of the Intellectual Property Management and Markets Program

Mr. Munsterman joined the IIT community in 2012. Working in private industry prior to joining IIT, Mr. Munsterman focused his career on the business of technology, including extensive work experience in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.  Mr. Munsterman previously served as vice president, general counsel and chief IP counsel for DuPont Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol LLC (DDCE), a joint venture of DuPont and Danisco. DDCE (now wholly owned by DuPont) is a leading on developer of renewable biofuel technologies. Prior to joining DDCE, Mr. Munsterman served as associate general counsel at UOP LLC, a subsidiary of Honeywell Inc. UOP is the world's leading developer and licenser of technology to the petrochemical and refining industries. Prior to joining UOP, Mr. Munsterman operated his own technology-focused law practice and worked as an associate in several large law firms, practicing corporate, securities and finance law.

Mr. Munsterman graduated from Drake University Law School in 1985. He holds an M.S. degree in biotechnology from Northwestern University as well as a  B.S. degree in speech and philosophy from Iowa State University.

Mr. Munsterman's outside interests include music and outdoor sports. Mr. Munsterman performs locally as a singer/songwriter, and he has completed the Ironman Wisconsin race as well as the Paris-Brest-Paris marathon bicycle ride.
