Susan Johanne Adams

Professor of Legal Research and Writing, Associate Director of the Legal Research and Writing Program, and Director of Writing Services

Professor Adams received her law degree (with highest distinction) from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1990, where she was articles editor of the Valparaiso University Law Review. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in English from the University of Wisconsin.

Professor Adams was a law clerk to Judges Kenneth F. Ripple, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and Paul E. Plunkett, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. She spent several years as a teacher of English in Ethiopia, Malawi, and England, and was an adjunct instructor of legal writing at Valparaiso University School of Law for ten years.

Professor Adams joined the IIT Chicago-Kent faculty in 1993. She has published several articles and book reviews on African literature and a law review note on hazardous waste in interstate commerce. Recent articles include one on research accountability (with Professor Molly Warner Lien) and two articles on accommodating law students with disabilities, both of which appeared in the Journal of Legal Education.
