IIT Chicago-Kent names its Buffalo-Niagara National Mock Trial Competition team

Molly Condon, Laura Henneman, Elangie Lozada and Alison Schaffer, third-year IIT Chicago-Kent students, will represent the law school at the eleventh annual Buffalo-Niagara National Mock Trial Competition November 8 to 11.

This prestigious invitational tournament, featuring several of the nation's top-ranked trial teams, is hosted by the SUNY Buffalo Law School and will be held at Buffalo City Court. Law students will try both sides of a homicide case before experienced judges and trial attorneys who volunteer as judges and evaluators. After the preliminary rounds, the top 16 teams advance to the final rounds. Awards are presented for Best Opening, Best Direct, Best Cross, Best Summation and Best Advocate.

Team member Molly Condon completed her undergraduate education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in political science and a minor in philosophy. Teammate Laura Henneman graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a major in journalism and a minor in political science. Teammate Elangie Lozada completed her undergraduate education in communications studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Teammate Alison Schaffer graduated from Northwestern University with a double major in communications studies and legal studies. Schaffer also earned a master's in education from Hunter College.

The team is coached by Patricia Sudendorf, director of the LL.M. Program in Trial Advocacy for International Students; adjunct professors David Lavin and Jon Neuleib '02; and IIT Chicago-Kent alumnae Tara Korthals '13 and Rachael Sinnen '11.

Founded in 1888, IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law is the law school of Illinois Institute of Technology, also known as Illinois Tech, a private, technology-focused, research university offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering, science, architecture, business, design, human sciences, applied technology, and law.
