Master of IP Management & Markets Admissions

Application Requirements & Procedures

Applicants to our Intellectual Property Management and Markets program must have a bachelor's degree (or equivalent). If you do not already hold a graduate degree (e.g., MA, MS, JD, MBA), you must demonstrate satisfactory performance on an appropriate standardized test such as the GMAT, LSAT or GRE. Where relevant, you should include TOEFL scores (600/250/100 or above) or IELTS scores (7.5 or above). Applicants should also demonstrate aptitude through undergraduate (or graduate) grades or through relevant work experience. To graduate from the program, you must maintain a 3.0 grade point average.

The next program year begins in August 2012, and applications will be accepted starting October 15, 2011. Completed applications will be considered as they are received, and offers of acceptance into the program will be made beginning in February 2012.

If sufficient interest is generated, a part-time program may be offered starting in August 2012.

Application Checklist

Your application will be reviewed for admission consideration once the Office of Admissions has received and processed all of the items below:

    Application for Admission

    Candidates are encouraged to submit their application online and submit all supporting documents as soon as possible. Students are admitted on a rolling-admissions basis, so it is advantageous to apply early. Classes for the fall semester begin in mid-August.

    Personal Statement

    Each applicant must submit a personal statement in essay format that does not exceed 1,000 words. There is a field on the online application form for this statement. The essay should include discussion of your reasons for pursuing graduate study, your academic background, your relevant professional experience or related accomplishments to date, and your career goals.

    Letters of recommendation

    We require two letters of recommendation from individuals who are able to assess your academic and/or career achievements and potential. Recommenders may include professors or employers but may not include family members or personal friends.

    Transcripts

    Applicants should arrange to have transcripts of prior study submitted to the Office of Admissions. All applicants who have done academic work at foreign institutions must provide original academic records and officially certified English translation of the original records. In addition, please submit official information on the grading system.

    GRE, GMAT or LSAT scores

    Official GRE or GMAT scores for tests taken within the past five years should be sent directly to IIT by the testing service. Please arrange for the testing service to send your scores to institution code 1318; no department code is required. Please include an unofficial report with your application. If you have taken the LSAT, please include an unofficial report with your application.

    IELTS or TOEFL scores

    The results of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all applicants who are not native speakers of English or who did not receive their undergraduate education at an institution that uses English as the primary language of instruction. Applicants should submit their official IELTS results along with their application. Alternatively, applicants should arrange for the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to send an official TOEFL score report to institution code 1318. Information about the TOEFL is available on the ETS website.

    The IELTS or TOEFL may be waived at the discretion of the Admissions Committee for applicants who can otherwise substantiate their English proficiency. Applicants who wish to have the IELTS or TOEFL requirement waived must submit a written request with their application for admission that includes an explanation of their familiarity with English and any appropriate supporting documentation.

All material submitted with or in support of an application becomes the property of IIT and is not returnable.
