Open Government/Government Watchdog Law
The Center for Open Government advises and represents citizens or citizens groups who need legal assistance in their efforts to hold government accountable.
- We represent citizens who need assistance in drafting requests for information pursuant to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, (FOIA) or in filing administrative appeals, when such requests have been denied.
- We represent citizens or citizens groups who choose to litigate denials of FOIA requests.
- We represent citizens or citizens groups who seek to challenge public bodies that fail to comply with the openness required by the Illinois Open Meetings Act.
- We will consider participating in other citizen litigation on a case by case basis.
All legal services will be provided on a pro bono basis. However, clients are expected to pay any costs or fees related to their litigation.
