Faculty Biographies
Jeremy Alexis
Jeremy Alexis is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Design. He holds both a Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Design degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Jeremy has spent the majority of his professional career leading interdisciplinary teams tasked with defining next generation products, services, and business models. He has worked with clients such as Unilever, Motorola, Citibank, Pfizer, American Express, Target Corporation, and Zebra Technologies. (Institute of Design bio page)
Joe Bogdan
Joe Bogdan is a 25+ year veteran intellectual property executive in the entertainment and technology industries. He began his career as an attorney in private practice focusing on the intellectual property issues raised by the convergence of entertainment and technology, concluding his private practice career in 2000 as a Partner in the Entertainment and Media Business Unit of the Los Angeles-based law firm of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips.
Most recently, Joe was Sr. V.P. of Business and Legal Affairs for World Wrestling Entertainment, where he held primary responsibility for running the day-to-day operation of the Business Affairs of the company. Prior to WWE, Joe spent nearly 6 years as an entrepreneur, including 4 years with Cognitive Concepts, makers of the Earobics® line of early literacy technology entertainment products. As both Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel of Cognitive Concepts, Joe was instrumental in positioning a dynamic intellectual property portfolio towards revenue generation, and in a successful sale of the company to Houghton Mifflin.
Currently, Joe is an Associate Professor in the Arts, Entertainment and Media Management Department at Columbia College Chicago, where he coordinates the Live and Performing Arts curriculum. He is also a Partner with the law firm Culhane Meadows.
Mr. Bogdan has a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Illinois, and both an M.A. in Communications Management and a J.D. from the University of Southern California.
M. Krishna Erramilli
Dr. Erramilli is a Professor of Marketing and is Director of the IIT Stuart MBA Program. During his more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Erramilli has worked on 3 continents. He worked in India and Nigeria and taught at universities in the U.S. and Singapore. Prior to joining Stuart, he was a faculty member and associate dean in Singapore's Nanyang Business School, one of the largest business schools in Asia, where he helped develop and launch the Berkeley-Nanyang Advanced Management Program and the Nanyang Executive MBA.
A graduate of the University of Arkansas, Dr. Erramilli's doctoral work represented a pioneering analysis of the globalization of service firms. His work in this area has been cited extensively. Recently, he was recognized as the second most cited author in Global Strategy Research. His research interests include International Marketing Strategy, Foreign Market-Entry Strategy, Competitive Advantage of Global Firms and Growth Strategies in Emerging Markets. Jacqueline A. Leimer
Ms. Leimer joined the IIT community in fall 2009 to help launch and direct a new interdisciplinary master's program in intellectual property management and markets.
Prior to joining IIT, she was vice president and associate general counsel, global intellectual property, at the world headquarters of Kraft Foods, in Northfield, Ill., with responsibility for the overall management of intellectual property legal issues worldwide from 2005 to 2009. Ms. Leimer currently is a member of the IP-Portunity consulting team.
Mickie A. Piatt
Professor Piatt received her B.A., M.L.S. and J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and is a member of the Texas Bar. Prior to joining Chicago-Kent faculty, she was at the University of Texas and the University of Oklahoma.
Professor Piatt has written and lectured extensively on topics concerning automated legal research, intellectual property, legal issues in information science and legal issues relating to artificial intelligence. She has developed a continuing education workshop for information professionals working with copyright issues in an electronic environment and on law and the Internet. (Chicago-Kent bio page)
Dennis Roberson
Dennis Roberson is a Research Professor at Chicago-Kent and an adjunct with the IIT Computer Science department. Professor Roberson has been with IIT since 2003 and since that time has been involved in establishing an undergraduate business school focused on entrepreneurship and technology, a wireless research center, IIT's corporate relations initiative, and in developing research centers and business ventures with public and private sector partners.
Anthony Trippe
Professor Trippe developed IPMM 508 – Patent Analytics and Landscape Reports for Supportive Organizational Decision Making, the first-of-its-kind course in patent analysis as part of the IP Management and Markets masters degree program at IIT. With 25 years experience in searching patent information using various methods and 18 years experience in patent analytics and landscaping, Trippe is identified as one of the Top 300 IP Strategists by IAM Magazine.
