Howard Smith graduated from the State University of N.Y. at Buffalo with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Howard was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy Civil Engineer Corps in September of 2001 and served on Active Duty until August of 2007. Howard was deployed to Okinawa for 4 years, and spent one year in Kabul, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon completion of law school, Howard returned to Active Duty as a Navy Judge Advocate.

In his spare time Howard enjoys kayaking and rowing on the Chicago River and spending time with his wife and two daughters. He is a licensed private pilot. Howard is extremely grateful for the opportunities the Honors Scholarship provided.
