Alexandra McNicholas is from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from the University of Virginia with distinction and received a B.A. in Foreign Affairs. Following graduation Alexandra worked as a corporate paralegal at a law firm and hedge fund in New York City.

During her first year of law school, Alexandra volunteered at Cabrini Green Legal Aid assisting with their Markham Help Desk records. Alexandra became interested in public defense and prisoners' rights after volunteering with the Student Humanitarian Network in New Orleans over winter break. Alexandra returned to work at the Orleans Public Defender as a summer law clerk and Justice John Paul Stevens Fellow.

Alexandra is a member of the Chicago-Kent Law Review and Moot Court Honor Society. This fall she is externing with the Honorable Elizabeth Budzinski in the Circuit Court of Cook County. In her free time Alexandra enjoys exploring the city, reading fiction and catching up on pop culture news.
