Matthew McElwee graduated with honors from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and received a B.S. in Business Administration with a dual-specialization in Entrepreneurship and Management. During his undergraduate career, Matthew launched several successful businesses, a new student organization on SIUE's campus, and an entrepreneurship competition granting funds to start-ups. Following graduation, Matthew worked as a law clerk before moving to Chicago for law school.

As a 1L, Matthew participated as a member of the Corporate Law Society and the Real Estate Law Society. He also volunteered at the Daley Center's Self-Help Web Center, assisting pro-se litigants. During his second year, Matthew worked as a law clerk at Synergy Law Group, participated in Moot Court and Law Review, and acted as President of the Corporate Law Society. Following his second year, Matthew worked as a Summer Associate at Kirkland & Ellis, LLP, where he will continue after law school.

As a 3L, Matthew acted as the President of the Moot Court Honor Society and worked as a law clerk for Kirkland & Ellis. His academic focus will culminate in a J.D. supplemented by the Chicago-Kent Business Law Certificate.
