Externship opportunities for the upcoming semester are listed in Symplicity*, the Career Services Management System, through the Career Services Office (CSO). Newly posted externships will also be featured in The Record.
All available externships in Symplicity will be listed as "Access2Practice Legal Externships". In Symplicity, go to Job Postings – Non-OCR, and filter externships by choosing "Access2Practice Legal Externships" in the Position Type field. This will list ALL externships, including public and private.
- Read each posting carefully for application deadlines and instructions on where to submit your application for the externship. Some will require you to upload your application into Symplicity while others will ask for you to send an application directly to the firm/corporation/non-profit. Make sure to submit your application in enough time to allow for the necessary screening and approval procedures.
- You must be ready to begin your LEP fieldwork by the first week of the semester or you will not be able to participate in the program. In addition, once formally enrolled in LEP, unlike other classes, you will not be allowed to drop or withdraw after you begin.
Note: Some public interest externships will not be posted in Symplicity. If you are interested in externing in a public interest position, please set up a meeting with Professor Vivien Gross, faculty director of the LEP, to discuss opportunities.
Upon receipt of an externship in an "approved" externship placement, before an extern can officially begin the program, Professor Gross must contact the prospective supervising lawyer to ensure that the placement and supervisor are informed of and able to comply with LEP's academic requirements.
If you have questions about the LEP, please contact Professor Vivien Gross, faculty director of the LEP, at email@example.com.
