Cost of Attendance Budget

The following budget information reflects the average students education-related costs of attending Chicago-Kent for the 9-month academic year. Please keep in mind that the figures for room and board, books, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses are estimates. Some students spend less than indicated and therefore choose to borrow less in federal loans. 

Included in the Cost of Attendance Budget are direct costs and indirect costs. Direct costs are items that will be charged direct by IIT Downtown Campus. They include tuition and fees. Indirect costs such as books, room and board, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses are based on average expenses. They are estimates to assist you in budget planning. Indirect costs are not payable to the university.

Please be aware that the Cost of Attendance budget is intended for the student's 9-month academic year only (fall and spring). If a student attends one semester the Cost of Attendance budget may be adjusted accordingly. If a student registers to attend a summer term and is eligible for federal aid, those costs will be added at that time. The Cost of Attendance is exclusively for the student, not any other family members. The Office of Financial Aid encourages students to borrow conservatively.

(1) Loan Origination Fees are included in the Cost of Attendance Budget of each student. These are the average fees charged by Direct Loans on the Federal Unsubsidized and Federal Plus Loan combined. The Loan Origination Fee is automatically deducted from the amount borrowed. Students receive a net amount of disbursement funds on their student account. See our website for more information.

NOTE: The total amount of living expenses does NOT automatically equal the amount of funds available for a refund. To determine the refund students need to calculate their direct charges per semester (tuition per credits enrolled), and subtract their anticipated financial aid (minus loan origination fees). Summer Cost of Attendance Budget Components

Students will be awarded based on a cost of attendance budget that equates to approximately 3 months of living expenses plus summer term tuition charges. The tuition rate is based on the upcoming academic year rate, but the living expenses are based on the current academic year cost of attendance budget.
