(Step 4 of Apply for Financial Aid)
Once the Department of Education sends your SAR information to the IIT Downtown Campus, the Office of Financial Aid reviews your FAFSA information, determines your eligibility, and creates a financial aid award for you, if you have been admitted into a degree-seeking program. Once you accept your financial aid award our office will communicate with you by Chicago-Kent email.
Your financial aid award may contain one or more of the following types of financial aid:
- Federal Loans (Stafford Unsubsidized and/or PLUS Loan)
- Federal Work Study
- Outside resources (tuition remission, student acquired scholarships, etc.)
When your financial aid award is finalized and ready to be viewed and accepted/declined by you, our office will notify you as follows:
- New students will receive an email notification indicating that their financial aid award is ready to be viewed online through the myIIT portal. New students will also receive a paper financial aid award letter in the mail.
- Continuing students will receive an email notification indicating that their financial aid award is ready to be viewed online through the myIIT portal.
After you have reviewed your financial aid award, please determine the exact amount of loan funds that you need for the entire academic year, not per semester. In order to receive these funds, new and continuing students must accept, or reject all or a part of the loan amounts via the myIIT portal. To help you determine how much you need to borrow complete the Semester Refund Calculation Worksheet.
*Please note that you cannot make changes to your financial aid award through the myIIT portal after your loans have been processed. The myIIT portal will not give you the option to accept, increase, or reject loans that have already been processed. You must contact our office via email if you wish to make changes to these loans.
