The Chicago-Kent College of Law Archives (hereafter the Archives), a division of the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law Library, holds the records of the Chicago-Kent College of Law and its predecessor institutions, the Chicago College of Law, Lake Forest College Department of Law and Kent College of Law. The Archives supports the missions of the law school to create and disseminate knowledge, to advance student learning, and to support research and teaching.
The Archives works with the law school's records creators and holders to identify and acquire key records of enduring historical and administrative, legal, or cultural significance. We collect significant records of organizations affiliated with the law school and of associated entities within the legal community. We acquire as well the manuscripts of individuals associated with the law school including faculty, staff, students, and alumni. Along with records and manuscripts the Archives also collects publications related to the law school and other pertinent items in a variety of formats, both physical and digital. In accordance with archival principles and standards, we preserve, organize, and create access to the materials collected.
We make our resources available to the law school community and to the outside world through onsite and offsite reference services, through our Web presence, through the exhibition of selected materials, and via new technologies to serve an ever wider audience.
The Archives collects documents (unpublished materials), photographs, and audiovisual materials by and about the law school's administrative offices, academic departments, and student organizations. The Archives also collects printed materials and serials published by and about the law school.
The Archives also holds manuscripts collections from, by, or about people and topics related to the law school. This may include: personal and professional papers of faculty, staff, trustees, friends and alumni; publications by or about people associated with the law school; and historic photographs and documents of people, buildings, and locations in the law school community.
