Chicago Bears’ General Counsel Cliff Stein to Speak to IIT Chicago-Kent’s Sports and Entertainment Law Society

Cliff Stein, Chicago Bears' vice president of football administration and general counsel, will discuss his career and how to leverage a law degree into a job in the sports industry at 7:15 p.m. on October 22 at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. The program, which is sponsored by IIT Chicago-Kent's Sports and Entertainment Law Society, will be held in room 580 of the law school, 565 West Adams Street (between Clinton and Jefferson streets) in Chicago.

Cliff Stein is the Chicago Bears' lead negotiator for all player contracts. Stein assists the general manager in the management and strategic planning of the club's salary cap, in the handling of all legal issues in the football operations department, and in overseeing the team's security and safety services. He serves as the liaison between the National Football League (NFL) Management Council and the team on all CBA/salary cap compliance issues and other legal matters. In addition, Stein serves as the Bears' general counsel on all general legal matters and as liaison to outside counsel.

Prior to joining the Bears, Stein represented NFL players in contract negotiations and was a certified contract adviser with the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA). He was a partner in the law firm Colton & Stein PC in Voorhees, New Jersey, where he specialized in sports law and civil litigation. Stein has also served as an NFL agent, where he performed all salary and endorsement contract negotiations and handled arbitrations, injury grievances, appeals and workers' compensation claims.

Stein graduated magna cum laude from Temple University in 1991 with a degree in business law and finance. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Temple University School of Law in 1994.
