Thursday, September 10, 2015

IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law has launched a seven-month online certificate program in Financial Markets Compliance (FMC). This is among the first programs in the country to provide prospective and entry-level compliance professionals with a deep understanding of the field as it applies across different types of financial institutions.

"Our FMC certificate program will appeal to those in business and law contemplating career changes and to junior-level professionals working in the financial services industry," says IIT Chicago-Kent Professor Felice Batlan, director of the Institute for Compliance. "Our current students are highly qualified professionals, many of whom have advanced degrees."

"Dodd-Frank Act and other government regulation of the financial industry have created a need for professionals to understand issues related to transparency, accountability and consumer protectionn. Our certificate program was designed by financial services compliance professionals and law and business school professors."

The FMC program introduces students to the increasingly complex compliance demands and requirements of the various regulators of the financial markets. Students examine the regulation of financial markets from a variety of perspectives, the fundamentals of how financial markets function, elements of an effective compliance program, managing and mitigating risk, conducting investigations, partnering with auditors and regulators, and establishing adequate monitoring and testing systems.
