Mohini Lal '16 named a 2016 Reproductive Justice Fellow

Mohini Lal, a 2016 graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law at Illinois Tech, has been chosen as a 2016 Reproductive Justice Fellow. The fellowship is designed to create entry points into the reproductive health, rights and justice fields and to enhance legal and advocacy capacity at organizations working to advance reproductive justice.

Lal is spending her yearlong fellowship with the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum, representing the organization in multiple coalitions related to women, Asian and Pacific Islander Americans, and reproductive justice issues. Lal also briefs legislators about issues concerning reproductive justice and Asian and Pacific Islander Americans and drafts issue briefs, administrative comments, and model legislation.

At Chicago-Kent, Lal founded and served as president of Law Students for Reproductive Justice and was a member of the teams that won the ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law's Midwest regional trial advocacy tournament and the National Black Law Students Association's Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Regional Competition.

She served as a legal extern at the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission and as a 711 law clerk for Metropolitan Family Services through Chicago-Kent's Legal Externship Program. She was a legal intern at the Domestic Violence Legal Clinic and at Chicago-Kent's Criminal Defense Clinic. Lal also volunteered at the Indo-American Center Law Clinic and the Illinois Choice Action Team.

Lal graduated from Chicago-Kent in May 2016 with a J.D. degree and certificates in public interest law and Praxis. Before law school, Lal earned a bachelor's degree in social sciences at Shimer College.
