J.D./M.S. Program in Environmental Management and Sustainability

Enrollment in the joint J.D./M.S. in Environmental Management and Sustainability Program enables a student to obtain a J.D. degree from Chicago-Kent and an M.S.degree from IIT Stuart School of Business in approximately three and a half to four years of full-time study or five to six years of part-time study. IIT Stuart's Master of Science in Environmental Management and Sustainability prepares students to be uniquely trained management professionals who understand the complex dimensions of environmental issues today.

Eligibility and Requirements

Joint Program students may apply up to five approved M.S. courses taken at the IIT Stuart School of Business toward the requirements for the J.D. degree.  A J.D./M.S. Course Request form (available in the Registrar's Office) must be completed before the course begins for each M.S. course the student intends to apply to the J.D. requirements. No credit may be applied toward the J.D. degree for courses completed prior to the commencement of law studies.

To receive J.D. credit for a course, the student must earn at least a C in the course. Students receive 2.4 credit hours toward the J.D. degree for each M.S course successfully completed, up to a maximum of 12 hours. If a student takes fewer than five M.S. courses, the student will receive 2.4 credit hours per course, rounded down to the nearest whole number. The M.S course grades will not count in the student's J.D. grade point average.

How to Apply

Candidates for the J.D./M.S. in Environmental Management and Sustainability Program must apply to and be accepted by each program separately, and complete a Registration as a J.D./M.S. in EMS form in the Registrar's Office. Admissions information for the J.D. program is available from the  Chicago-Kent Office of Admissions and for the M.S. program from IIT Stuart School of Business. Students may apply to the M.S. program after beginning the J.D. program, but must be enrolled concurrently in both programs for one or more terms to receive the benefits of the joint degree.
