Partner Programs

Chicago-Kent partners with programs in Beijing and Shanghai; details on each are listed below:

Beijing, China-CUPL

In partnership with the Chinese University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), we offer four law courses as part of an Overseas Training Program. Students start the program in Beijing, and if they successfully complete all four courses and are approved by our faculty for admission to the LL.M. Program in U.S., International & Transnational Law, they can complete the LL.M. degree in Chicago by December of the same year.

Students have the option of remaining in Chicago for a third semester at reduced tuition cost.

All students are required to complete an Intensive English Preparation Course offered by CUPL prior to the start of the Overseas Training Program, and any students who are subsequently admitted to the LL.M. program will be required to attend a Legal English course offered at Chicago-Kent College of Law prior to the start of law classes in the Fall semester. Waivers from the Legal English class will be done on a case-by-case basis and will require submission of acceptable TOEFL (600/250/100) or IELTS (7.0) scores.

Courses offered in Beijing may include Introduction to the American Legal System, Introduction to Legal Research and Writing, International Business Transactions, Overview of Intellectual Property Law, Business Organizations, Comparative Law, and International Capital Markets. All courses are taught in English and are offered in a two-week intensive format for 3-4 hours per day for 10 days.

Applicants for the Overseas Training Program (OTP) must be CUPL law students in their final year of undergraduate study, or CUPL graduate law students, and should be proficient in English. Admission to the Chicago semester depends on a student's academic performance and English language skills. All applicants to Chicago-Kent's LL.M. program are required to submit an application form including a personal essay, law school transcripts, and two references.

School of American Law - Ukraine

In response to the Russian aggression in Ukraine and the resulting significant financial distress faced by Ukrainian legal professionals seeking to further their legal education, Chicago-Kent College of Law, together with its Ukrainian partner, The School of American Law (SAL) Ukraine, is offering a special and substantial (50%) reduction to tuition for Chicago-Kent's LL.M. program for students who successfully complete the SAL Ukraine program.  This special, limited-time, LL.M. tuition reduction is in addition to the already substantially reduced tuition normally provided to SAL Ukraine program graduates who later enroll in the LL.M. program at Chicago-Kent.

This special offer applies to any Ukrainian legal professionals who are qualified to take part in and who successfully complete the SAL program during the upcoming 2023-2024 year, and also to those SAL Ukraine program graduates who successfully completed the SAL program within the previous three years.

We welcome you to contact Chicago-Kent and/or the SAL Ukraine team at the contact emails and phone numbers below to learn more about the specifics of this special limited-time LL.M. tuition reduction offer.

Our thoughts are with you and the Ukrainian people to prevail in this struggle against Russia's unlawful aggression and for peace and security to soon be restored in Ukraine.  We very much look forward to hearing from you and to the possibility of welcoming you to our campus.

The School of American Law for the Balkans, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Turkey, and MENA, was launched in 2012 under the direction of Professor Richard Warner as a cooperative program between Chicago-Kent College of Law, the law firm KMG Georgia LLC, and Educational Management Park LLC.

By establishing special overseas programs for professionals in the Balkans, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Turkey, and MENA countries, Chicago-Kent, with its partners KMG Georgia and Educational Management Park, encouraged the local legal community to meet the challenges of effective professional integration into the globalized legal marketplace.

The School of American Law (SAL) program is the first and only program of its kind in the Balkans, Caucasus, Central Asia, Turkey, and MENA, which provides a deeply collaborative learning experience with a unique study structure and significant scholarships for law practitioners. The program structure encompasses two components:

  1. SAL in-country study
  2. LL.M. degree study in Chicago

The SAL program provides practitioner lawyers, litigators, mid-and high-career level public servants, corporate lawyers, recent graduates, and future lawyers with the superior quality of U.S. legal education by offering a range of contemporary courses delivered exclusively by the faculty of Chicago-Kent.

Throughout enrollment in the SAL courses, students will experience a variety of forms of collaboration with peers. SAL students are busy professionals who are balancing work, personal lives, and other commitments, so studying in the SAL program can be a challenge. A flexible learning environment and a culture of collaboration can help our students overcome the challenges of studying in the SAL program. The SAL program covers all the major contemporary subjects, and credits earned through the SAL program are fully recognized by Chicago-Kent College of Law. Students who successfully complete the SAL program and are approved for admission to the LL.M. program can complete the LL.M. degree in Chicago in one or two semesters (note that all specialized LL.M. program tracks at Chicago-Kent require two semesters of study at Chicago-Kent. The LL.M. program in U.S., International, and Transnational Law, however, can be completed by successful SAL program graduates in one semester at Chicago-Kent).
